Netanyahu Gives Mossad Its Mission: Bring Down Iran’s Regime
At an officers’ graduation ceremony, Israel’s prime minister said he had directed Mossad and the military to topple Tehran’s rulers.

Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly assigned Mossad a mission to bring down Iran’s government. Speaking at the Bahad 1 officer school on October 21, the Israeli prime minister said the directive extended to the IDF and the country’s other security agencies, according to The Times of Israel’s military correspondent Emanuel Fabian.
The setting put the objective before a graduating class of military officers. Netanyahu presented the overthrow of Iran’s rulers as the way to remove the threat he says Tehran poses to Israel. His account disclosed the political goal; the published speech report supplied no timetable or details of how Mossad would carry it out.
The instruction followed a similar statement in a Channel 14 interview reported by Voice of America on October 20. In that earlier appearance, Netanyahu addressed Mossad, the military and military intelligence. The two appearances put the same declared objective before a television audience and then a military gathering.
Netanyahu has also linked unfinished business with Iran to his relationship with Donald Trump. VOA reported a video of a call in which Netanyahu told the US president they would complete that work together. The public exchange leaves Washington’s approval of any particular intelligence operation unestablished.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi offered a defiant answer to the wider threats, asserting in a Sunday social-media post cited by VOA that Iran had emerged stronger from the previous attempt to finish the job. That was Tehran’s stated response; the exchange disclosed no operational plan from either side.
